Information concerning the members of the investment team is outlined below. Members of the team are listed alphabetically.

Albert Arntz

Director

Albert joined the company in 2022. He holds a Master of Science degree in Data Science, from the International University of Applied Sciences in Bad Honnef, is a CFA ® Charterholder and a member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants. Albert worked previously at Ernst & Young, Nedbank, Deutsche Bank, Prudential Investment Managers and Apex Group. He has more than 20 years of industry experience.

Cromwell Mashengete

Director

Cromwell holds a BA in Economics from the University of the North, an MA from Stanford University, and an MBA from Brunel University. He was previously Co-head of Equities at Sanlam Investment Management, has managed funds for the National Parks Board and the Oil & Protein Seed Board. His experience also includes roles in trustee training, economic analysis for bond teams, and research on economic variables. Cromwell has over 25 years of experience in the financial services sector.

Gordon Beckenstrater

Chief Data Scientist / Investment Analyst

Gordon holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science with First Class Honours from Royal Holloway, University of London, and a Master of Science in Computer Science from the University of Cape Town. His areas of specialization include machine learning, data engineering, and computational optimization. His thesis focused on predicting mergers and acquisitions using machine learning. Gordon’s expertise lies in developing AI models for stock market analysis and prediction.

Marc Beckenstrater

Director

Marc holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of the Witwatersrand and an MBA from the University of Cape Town. He served as Chief Investment Officer (CIO) and Head of Equities at Prudential South Africa from 1999 to 2015. From 2017 to 2022, he was a Portfolio Manager at M&G Investments in the UK and subsequently joined Numerai LLC as a Portfolio Manager from 2022 to 2023. He brings over 30 years of experience in the investment industry.

Michael Copeman

Intern

Mike holds a Bachelor of Science in Pure Mathematics from the University of Cape Town. His areas of interest include machine learning, statistical modeling, and participation in the Numerai data science tournament.

Miles Beckenstrater

Data Scientist / Investment Analyst

Miles holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science with First Class Honours from Royal Holloway, University of London. He specializes in machine learning and computational finance. His undergraduate thesis compared regression-based machine learning algorithms. Miles focuses on developing advanced machine learning models for portfolio optimization and leads the firm’s trading operations.
